Our Community

A six-year labor of love, was inspired by real people in Saskatoon and their stories. The concept began with simple sketches I created during breaks from my job as a makeup artist at The Bay, capturing quiet moments of observation and connection. Over time, these drawings evolved into a thoughtful project reflecting authenticity and a deep appreciation for the community. After years of dedication, I brought this vision to life by self-publishing, ensuring every detail stayed true to the heart of the work. It’s a testament to resilience, creativity, and the beauty of everyday life.

"Our Community," utilizes word and picture associations to initiate conversations about diversity and inequality. The book's illustrations on each page are designed, such that the figure on one page is linked to the figure on the opposite page. This approach encourages readers to draw connections between the numerous qualities, activities, and occupations depicted in the book.
Through its unique approach, "Community" aims to spark conversations about internalized systems of racism, classism, ageism, sexism, homophobia, and ableism. It was inspired by local people in the community of Saskatchewan.
Portion proceeds are donated to Indigenous-led grassroots community projects on Treaty 4 Territory home of Nêhiyawak (Plains Cree), Nahkawininiwak (Saulteaux), Nakota (Assiniboine), Dakota and Lakota (Sioux), Denesuline (Dene/Chipewyan) and Metis Nations.
